The Alcantara Lab and the PLENTBio Research group are now located in the SAL - Scientia Amabilis Lab, a new laboratory founded in 2024. SAL is an integrated space where we also develop several outreach projects, in addition to the scientific research. We are still affiliated with the SistVeg Lab (a metalab that includes five other professors) at the Botany Department - UFSC, but most of the time our team will be reached at the SAL:

JOIN THE LAB?

We always welcome people excited about biodiversity and evolution, regardless the specific topic of your research. If you like to investigate evolutionary processes and ecological patterns from an integrative perspective, we are prone to discuss research projects and new approaches for interesting questions! As a plus, our lab is located in the beautiful island of Santa Catarina and the city of Florianópolis is one of the surf/beach paradises in Brazil.

Specific information concerning different career points are bellow:

Alunos de graduação: Recebemos alunos dos cursos de Ciências Biológicas da UFSC em estágios obrigatórios (vivência, estágio/projeto de TCC, iniciação científica) e eletivos/voluntários, especialmente em projetos de extensão. Também recebemos estudantes de outros cursos da UFSC (Agronomia, Geologia, Matemática) e de outras universidades interessados nas linhas de pesquisa que desenvolvemos. Oportunidade de bolsas de iniciação científica e projetos de extensão seguem calendário anual UFSC.

PhD students: We admit students pursuing a PhD in the areas of Botany (PPGFAP- Pós-graduação em Biologia de Fungos, Algas e Plantas) and Evolution (PPGEVODIV-Pós-graduação em Evolução e Diversidade). The courses follow a variable annual-based calendar for admission of students who wish to apply for fellowships (i.e., CAPES, CNPq, and FAPESC/FAPESP fellowships). Please, check directly the webpages for the calendar. Feel free to get in touch by email or personally before applying for a doctorate in our lab.

Postdocs: We are always welcome to postdocs interested in joining the group for work on our current projects and/or interested in developing their own research project within an integrative approach between evolution & ecology, not necessarily focusing on plants. Options for financial support for postdocs are variable, so if you would like to apply for it, get in touch and we can make a plan of action to make it happen.
